The Brandenburg State Institute for Forensic Medicine (BLR)
The State Institute for Forensic Medicine (BLR) was founded on the basis of a cabinet decision of 18 June 1991 through the fusion of the former district institutes for forensic medicine in Potsdam and Frankfurt (Oder).
In doing so, the workforce was reduced to 27 employees. This corresponds to around 40 per cent of the previous workforce. After new institutes were built in Frankfurt and Potsdam the staff are split between the two locations as follows:
- Headquarters in Potsdam = complete range of services
- Branch in Frankfurt (Oder) = necessary local tasks
The advantage of this structure lies in the concentration of all laboratory activities in one central location.
The BLR is led by the Director Dr. med. Semmler. The branch in Frankfurt (Oder) is led by Dipl.-Med. Ragna Drescher.
