Department GR
Department for Large Nature Reserves and Regional Development
The most beautiful and most valuable landscapes of the state of Brandenburg are to be found in 11 nature parks, 3 biosphere reserves and the Unteres Odertal national park. Together they account for a third of the state's territory. They also form a part of the National Nature Landscapes alliance, a grouping of all large protected areas in Germany. They are a part of the national natural heritage. These are the leading attractions of the state of Brandenburg for nature lovers. Multiplying offers of nature experience trips have come to serve these requests ever better.
The
Department for large protected areas and regional development (GR) of the
State Office for Environment is responsible for looking after, developing and
administering this total of 15 national nature landscapes. Its objective is to
integrate nature conservation aspects into all forms of land use - ranging from
agriculture and forestry to tourism. This department also wants to develop and
promote sustainable types of living and of economic management.
The following are some focal aspects
- implementing the NATURA 2000 programme
- nature conservation and landscape management
- sustainable regional development and
- environmental education and promotion of nature tourism.
The
Department GR managed Dr. Hartmut Kretschmer.
